Emerging from several medieval kingdoms, Ghana made it's historical wealth from trading gold across the Sahara. Soon it would become known as the Gold Coast and a colony of the British. It was the first colony in Africa to be granted independence and after a difficult post-independence period, Ghana looks to have a bright future ahead of it.
