Ghost Fleets: What does Maritime Autonomous Systems Integration offer the RCN?
Vice-Admiral (Ret'd) Robert A. Davidson, Cdr. Ryan Bell, and Kate Todd joined the Expert Series to discuss the application of MAS, or 'Ghost Fleets', and how they serve to benefit the RCN.
The panel touches on the international norms and international industry development of autonomous maritime systems, how MAS can enhance Canada's maritime domain awareness, especially in the Arctic, the balance between fully autonomous vs. optionally-crewed systems in naval operations, the role of Canadian industry and R&D in developing advanced autonomous maritime platforms, the legal, ethical, and policy structures needed to guide the deployment of MAS, and the importance of interoperability, standardization, and collaboration with NATO allies and Five Eyes partners.
