Mt Blanco Fossil Museum is located on 124 W. Main Street in Crosbyton, Texas on US Hwy 82,  about 35 miles east of Lubbock. The museum building has 15,000 square feet of floor space

Works in progress are also part of the museum exhibits. At any one time the museum staff is excavating, restoring, molding, and casting fossils from around the world.

Museum Director Joe Taylor gives guided lecture tours of the facility.  Here he talks about the displays from our local fossil beds. Students also enjoy purchasing replicates of actual fossils they see in the museum.

The second display room is dominated by a huge skeleton of the Burning Tree Mastodon excavated from Ohio. This room also contains the largest mold ever of the Waco Mammoth Death Site. This mastodon is the one that was found with living bacteria still in its intestines. Our museum maintains that this is evidence that this animal couldn’t be 11,000 years old.

The museum also has a meeting area. The speaking area  is currently surrounded by numerous billboards from Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California (painted by Joe Taylor) of popular singing performers from the 1970s and 1980s. Visitors are surprised to find this unique art collection in the middle of a fossil museum.

This model (sculpted by Joe Taylor) of a giant human femur (leg bone) is a popular exhibit. The sculpture is mounted over a drawing to scale to show how large this person was. There really were giant humans. Click here for the story behind this sculptured bone.

Besides the main exhibit area the museum building houses spacious fossil prep and casting rooms. Visitors find it fascinating to see how fossils are readied for display.

These are just some of the many exhibits that await you at the Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum. Plan for your personal visit to this amazing museum now!
