There’s no doubt that Gideon was an underdog. He even calls himself one. “My clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I am the least in my family.” What’s more, to do the job that God asked him to do, he simply didn’t have enough resources. We often feel under-resourced in some area of our lives: financially, emotionally or spiritually. As such, we are often tempted to look to more money, influence, relationships or power. Gideon learned that no amount of material resources could help him accomplish the task he had been called to. Instead, he discovered that God did not ask him to be obedient TO His cause without resourcing him first FOR His cause. As the apostle Paul wrote, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Our job is to learn to trust in God provision as it will often come in unexpected ways.
