He was known as the Gilgo Beach serial killer. On April 8, 2026, Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty to killing seven women between 1993 and 2011. They are Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor, and Valerie Mack. Heuermann also admitted guilt in the killing of an eighth victim, Karen Vergata.
