On this episode of “Girl I Guess,” the ladies invite singer/songwriter Mario to the couch to discuss their ongoing conversation around dating during Covid and the world re-opening. Both Ming and Karen ask Mario about performing live vs the live-streaming performance and reminisce on past outdoor activities. Mario discusses everything from his childhood and growing up in Baltimore to his new music out now, his writing and recording process and the book he’s currently writing.

 In celebration of Mothers across the globe, Karen and Ming dedicate a special episode to discuss all things “Motherhood,” including the differences in their childhood & family upbringings, medical mishaps during pregnancy and childbirth for black women. Ming talks about the birth of her daughter Story and maintaining a single parent home while Karen dishes on her teenage years, how her mom became her best friend and even surprises Ming with a special Mother’s Day gift!

Summary: On this episode, the ladies discuss the effects of living in this semi-post pandemic society and it’s natural effects on us as Black people in all parts of our lives including our relationships with ourselves and others, plus how we identify these moments and how we can be coping to deal and process. Their joined by Karen’s personal therapist, Health and Relationship expert, Dr. Allycin Powell-Hicks who gives great perspective covering topics ranging from how people mourn through denial to when people should consider getting therapy for themselves.

The ladies discuss the unfortunate passing of the Legendary DMX (who Ming saw at her very first concert) and Black Rob and breakdown how black men are portrayed in the media as well as in TV and Film. Does social media play a bigger role in mental health and insecurities?
