Welcome to Episode 198. Last week we explored “Keys to Plant Patents” and this week let’s talk about how “GIS is Key” in forestry and arboriculture. GIS stands for Geographic Information System, which is “a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present spatial or geographic data” (Wikipedia). There are many uses for GIS in community forestry and arboriculture.
Species Spotlight
The tree of the week is the Hercules'-Club Zanthoxylum clava-herculis, also known as Prickly-Ash or Tickle-Tongue. It’s easily identified at a distance by the large, knobby warts on the trunk and branches.
