Give someone credit不是给某人信用的意思哦!

Listen Later

Credit确实是信用的意思,我们说的信用卡也确实是credit card,不过give someone credit真不是把你的信用给别人的意思,那到底是什么意思呢?我们又应该如何用呢?听听Joy and Chris是怎么用的!

J: Hi guys I’m Joy.

C: And I’m Chris. Today we are gonna show you the idiom: give someone credit. It’s usually used like:

She gave him credit. / I have to give him credit. / You should give yourself credit.

J: It means to recognize someone for their contribution or for doing a good job. A lot of people study really hard on their English and don’t think they are improving. But actually they are improving and they should tell themselves that they are doing great. So here, we can say that they should give themselves credit for studying so hard. Here’s a good example of this idiom:

C: Hey Julie. Are you ready for your exam next week?

J: I’ve been studying for a long time and I don’t think I’m making any progress. I feel like I’m gonna fail.

C: Quit being so hard on yourself. You should give yourself some credit for all the hard work you’ve done so far.

J: Thanks Bob. You’re right. I should give myself more credit.

C: Alright guys. Have you been giving yourself credit for all the hard work you’ve done? Let us know in the comments below.

J: And if you are looking for private English classes, feel free to contact us! Talk to you next time! Bye!
