It is no secret that the 2020 Advent/Christmas season is just going to be different than what any of us have ever experienced. Many of the traditions we have come to know might not happen this year.
There is some level of grief surrounding this for all of us.
However, if we remember the first Christmas, we will remember that it was also a time when God did something that hadn’t been done before. A tradition we have come to rely on, at its origin, was an utterly unique and disrupting experience for the people who experienced that first Christmas.
This Advent season, we will tell the Christmas story for the marvel that it is. It was a bold, courageous act of God that demonstrated his love for us in a powerful and vivid way. God disrupted Mary and Joseph’s lives on that first Christmas, and, perhaps it is when our lives are disrupted that we experience God most vividly.
