Or
how much she’s given
being unique in ‘57
From ahimsa and yoga
To the country of Ikea
in a scent, she’s brought home
innocent in Stockholm
family friends pour the adore
language, culture a magic world.
how much she gives
yet she’s driven to riven,
her life,
attemptacide twice
first husband only sees
that which is green, and not what bleeds
this hulk chokes her speech
with his grinding teeth
how much she gives
to her profession,
to her son,
she sews a confession
second husband doesn’t see
the beach of egg shells beneath
nails in her feet
her toes hammered
there goes another Bruce Banner
yet she dances
how much she’s given
these hot men’s livid
she escapes at last
a speck of freedom
but it doesn’t last
She says she happy
She thanks her God
She’s been emancipated
Retired
to a full-time job
and she’s still given
her parent’s bed-ridden
10th year of care-givin’
of vanishing sleep
from given the duty
to fatigue’s mystique
And she still gives
to every soul that lives
I pray that one day,
she can find it ok
to give to herself
and be fulfilled that way.
