Global Adventures for Girls

Listen Later

Many years ago, Juliette Gordon Low said, “We must accept the fact that transport and communications will bring the world in close relations and the youth of the world should have standards and ideals in common.”

Those prophetic words ring true today with the Girl Scouts travel program. From the field trips taken as Brownies to the global adventures they go on as teens, Girl Scouts can explore different places and cultures while learning about the world.

Girls can experience all that our country has to offer, whether they’re “blasting off” at Space Camp in Alabama, taking in a Broadway show in New York City, or visiting the birthplace of Girl Scouts’ founder, Juliette Gordon Low, in Savannah, Georgia. And they can plan even bigger adventures around the world, traveling with other Girl Scouts who share their love of adventure.

Today we’ll be hearing all about these travel opportunities and the benefits they offer from Girl Scout of Maine volunteer and Travel Coordinator, Shannon Johnson, and world traveler Girl Scout, Greta Smallidge.

We discuss:

  • The progression of the travel program
  • The adventures offered
  • Trips taken
  • The personal growth and sense of empowerment the girls discover
  • How they thrive because of these experiences.
