Cybersecurity and AI risks climb to the top of corporate worry lists
PwC says cybersecurity is now one of the biggest risks shaping corporate strategy, even as many companies admit they still do not have the capability to respond effectively. Executives also point to a turbulent policy environment, while American corporations keep pouring more money into AI and tech, because apparently the first lesson of modern business is to spend fast and worry later.
AI is making fraud easier, and banks are being told to act like a network
Joël Winteregg, CEO of Vyntra, says generative AI has made fraud much easier and helped criminal operations scale up. He argues banks need to share intelligence across borders and treat fraud networks more like coordinated operations than one-off incidents, which is a refreshingly unromantic way to describe the digital crime economy.
House expulsion fights could flare when lawmakers return
House leaders are facing demands to hold expulsion votes after recess, with calls aimed at Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales over sexual misconduct allegations. Some lawmakers are also pushing to expel Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and Republican Rep. Cory Mills, who have been under House investigation for months. TotalEnergies warns of major supply risks if Hormuz fighting drags on
TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné warned that the world could face serious supply problems if the war with Iran and a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz last more than three months. He said markets could recover in roughly that time if the strait is reopened and energy facilities are mostly intact, but any hit to infrastructure would turn the repair job into a much longer one. In other words, global energy still very much depends on geography not doing anything dramatic.

An inquiry has found that the killer’s parents failed in a moral duty to report their son, saying their failure to appreciate the danger he posed led to catastrophic consequences.
Medicaid expansion boosted access to opioid treatment
New research says Medicaid expansion significantly increased access to buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid addiction. In eight states that expanded Medicaid after 2018, prescriptions rose more than 21 percent from 2019 to 2023, with especially large gains in Maine, Oklahoma and Virginia. Researchers say later expansions also benefited from looser federal prescribing rules, including telehealth, while experts warn that looming Medicaid cuts could push patients off treatment and reduce access again.
