With the end of summer on the horizon, many of us are trying to get some last minute boating in. We couldn’t miss this opportunity either. This week our focus is shipwrecks. Because, you know, we love to ruin things. Dana shares the story of Salvador Alvarenga, a man who survived being lost at sea for 15 months! Did he really eat his ship mate or were the rumors just the whispers of bitter mourners? Nydia tells us about Terry Jo Duperrault, an 11 year old who survived 4 days at sea after witnessing her entire family get slaughtered by their murderous captain. Was it a random act of violence or a murder for money plot gone wrong? Cindy relates the story of the short lived concrete boats that have sunk around the shores of New Jersey. Maybe it was a mob hit, maybe it was poor engineering.
Cupcakes
For dinner, Cindy creates a delicious and hearty crockpot pot roast with potatoes, celery, onions and garlic. For dessert, she wowed us with red velvet cupcakes with homemade buttercream icing. The cupcakes were fluffy and light and the buttercream icing was rich and creamy.
Our wine was a delicious Syrah by El Portal. This was a perfect Syrah for people who don’t enjoy a very sweet wine. It was sweet but not overpowering and at under $15, this wine is now a favorite for taste as well as price.
