Goals, Growth and Guitars with Lindsay Hopkins

Listen Later

Going from the army to starting a mortgage company in his shed and writing four books with another on the way, Lindsay Hopkins has worked in many different areas and joins Tracy on this week's Sweat, Grit & Hustle. Find out all about Lindsay’s career in the army and how he moved into the world of wealth management.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Finding that cold calling wasn’t for him, Lindsay invited ten friends to a nice meal and asked them to all write down the names of people they could introduce him to who might want to work with him. He left the meal with forty names and had a great time while doing it.
  • It took Lindsay six months to go from the financial services business in his shed to being successful enough to need new bigger premises.
  • Never set your goal for thirteen weeks because everybody gets a cold.
  • Smash it quarter one, try even harder quarter two, chill out quarter three, then quarter four plan for the next year.
  • Goals work for everybody. No matter if you’re in business or not. You want to see your friends more? Okay how much more? Four more times this year? Five? Set a goal with a hard qualifier then you know how much you need to do to achieve it.

BEST MOMENTS

‘Why don’t you ask happy clients if they know any other potential clients’

‘You’re a monkey lion, you like people but you’re prepared to make decisions’

‘You can’t retire if you’ve got passion’

ABOUT THE GUEST

Psychology Graduate and ex Army Officer Lindsay Hopkins moved into the world of wealth management, when retirement from the Army called and so began a whole new world of business. Since then Lindsay has moved mountains and created multiple businesses and income streams: - Lindsay is the owner and founder of Trafalgar Square FPC Ltd, a mortgage brokerage business. - He has developed a "bespoke" bridging company DGFAM Ltd - He runs the hugely successful Creative Finance course for a UK Property Education company - Has built his own property portfolio in South Wales and regularly visits the area as a way of relaxing! - Is a multi-published author with his latest book due out in the near future. As someone who firmly works on his businesses, rather than in them, Lindsay does have some spare time and on those occasional moments off he likes nothing more than spending it with his uniquely supportive wife Chrissy, their two lovely children Gabby & Daniel and the their new grandson Archie, or maybe writing a song on one of his 15 guitars, but mostly he loves being kept busy helping others to realise their dreams.
