Even though the birth of Christ celebrates "God with us" in the flesh, Christmas can very easily become an escape from the world as we know it – an escape into a world of fantasy. By means of all the traditions, symbols and activity we can translate ourselves into a world that is beautiful and fanciful, a world of dreams and emotions; a happy, harmonious world, even if it lasts only for a few hours.

John begins his gospel by immediately affirming that through Jesus - God who created all things in the beginning, now joins His creation by means of the flesh, the humanity of Jesus. The implications are mind-blowing as well as life-changing.
