We have all had times in our lives where we want better from situations or people. Situations, where we were hoping for the best, while even in the back of our minds, figuring things were probably not going to go the way we wished. People, who we wanted to believe were better, but who ultimately could not or would not meet our expectations. It is in those times that we can become disappointed, discouraged, and depressed. We can struggle with thoughts of quitting or having nothing to do with those people anymore. But what would God have us do in those times?
In the first pastoral epistle to Timothy, Paul sees church leaders using ministry to make money for themselves or gain notoriety or power. This undoubtedly hurt Paul from time to time given that he was writing this letter from a prison. He could have just given up on serving the Lord, but instead wrote to Timothy to remind him of what was important and how to overcome becoming disillusioned by those people. We find it all starts with sound doctrine and sound teaching.
