John reminds us that there is no darkness in Christ.  We therefore should walk in the light.

If we hate our brothers and say we are walking in the light, we are making Christ a liar. The truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, Christ is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins.

As believers, we should not love the world. We are living in the last hour. We have an anointing in us from the Holy One.

No one who denies the Son have the Father, the one who confesses the Son has the Father.

We are promised eternal life.

Finally, in chapter 3, John tells us not to practice sin and lawlessness.

If we have the worlds goods, we should help those who have not. Love is an action word.
