I’ve met many people who’ve become stuck in their faith because they cannot physically see God. Even some strong, committed Christians have fallen into this trap. Because we don’t see God, and we live in a hyper-visual time in history, it’s easy to forget that God is there. But indeed, God is always there. And His presence is the light we need to get by in this life.
G.K. Chesterton famously said, “God is like the sun; you cannot look at it, but without it you cannot look at anything else.” Similar to the sun, God guides us through dark places. He provides light to get through dismal seasons. In Psalm 119:105 the Bible says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
When I think of a light in the darkness, I often think of Daniel from the Bible. Daniel trusted God when He was in some very dark places—like the lion’s den. It took time, but by relying on God, Daniel went from a dark, near-death experience to a position of great power over all of Babylon. If God did that with Daniel, just imagine what He could do with you, since Christ lives in you.
