God of Refuge

Listen Later

We've all experienced those moments when life feels deeply unfair—when it seems like those who ignore God's ways prosper while we struggle to do what's right. This exploration of Psalm 73 takes us on an honest journey through one of the most relatable human experiences: questioning why wickedness appears to succeed. Rather than offering easy answers to the 'why' questions that haunt us, this message invites us into something far more profound—discovering God as our refuge. The psalmist's journey reminds us that God isn't standing at a distance waiting for us to meet Him halfway. He has come all the way to us, standing right beside us, near enough that we need only turn to recognize His presence. The beautiful truth woven throughout is that God is both intimately close and infinitely capable—able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. Like the mustard tree that grows from the smallest seed to shelter birds in its branches, God provides rest, safety, and peace even when our circumstances haven't changed. This is especially relevant as we approach holidays that bring mixed emotions—joy for some, profound loss for others. We're reminded that worship isn't confined to easy seasons; it's possible even in lament because our refuge is secure. The call to be hands and feet to one another, reaching out when the Spirit prompts us, transforms abstract theology into lived reality.
