God Promises a New Covenant
God’s people were in full rebellion after the death of Josiah in 609 BC.
Jeremiah was shocked because no other nation had ever been so unfaithful (Jeremiah 2:11-13). He spent 40 years preaching doom to Israel.
God’s answer to Israel's awfulness included both judgment and a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34). Although his people have prostituted themselves with other gods, God’s heart is still for his people. God promises to restore their integrity! (Jer. 31:3-4).
Our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the old covenant, and paid the price for a new covenant (Luke 22:19-20). This changes everything! With a new contract and renewed integrity, we can act in his name to show God’s goodness and kindness in this world.
