The Old Testament Passover, where Israelites provided their own lambs for temporary deliverance, contrasts sharply with the New Covenant reality, where God Himself provides Jesus Christ as the eternal Paschal Lamb. From Genesis 22 and Isaiah 53, we find that salvation is entirely God's provision, not a human effort, fulfilling the type of substitutionary atonement. Christ's sacrifice was once-for-all, rendering any notion of ongoing propitiation through man-made rituals to be entirely blasphemous. Consequently, the Lord's Supper serves solely as a memorial to celebrate Christ's finished work, rather than a means to repeat it. At the Lord's Table, we worship God for providing the perfect sacrifice that justifies believers forever.
