In this episode of Reading the Bible Daily with Dave, we begin the book of Ezra by looking at the opening chapter, where God stirs the heart of Cyrus, king of Persia, to fulfill His Word and send His people home from exile. Ezra 1 is a powerful reminder that God's sovereignty extends over kings, nations, and all of history. Here we see: • The fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy after seventy years of exile • God moving the heart of a pagan king to accomplish His redemptive purposes • The stirring of God's people to return and rebuild the temple • The restoration of the temple vessels that Nebuchadnezzar had taken • A preview of the greater restoration found in Jesus Christ Ezra 1 teaches us that restoration always begins with God, and that His promises never fail. It calls us to trust Him, obey Him, and join Him in the work of rebuilding what sin has broken.
