Jesus used a small child to humble his disciples when they argued about "who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." We learn from Matthew 20:20-28 that James and John were the ones claiming to be greatest.
We need to become like little children to even enter the kingdom of heaven. The Apostle Paul helps us understand this in Romans 8:14-17. All who trust Jesus for their salvation are adopted as God's own children. The Holy Spirit works within us to cry out, "Abba, Father." We want to raise our hands and be loved by our daddy. I John 4:19 helps us take this another step deeper: We love, because God first loved us! Said another way, the only way we are going to fulfill our mission of loving God and loving our neighbors is to have the deepest possible experiences of being loved by our Abba.
All who receive a child in Jesus' name welcome Jesus as well. This is part of our congregation's DNA. We received a prophetic word in the early 1990s that God will bless us as we continue to "take care of the little ones." We held our first Royal Family Kids Camp 17 years ago as a way of living out God's call to us. Wayne Teach, co-founder of RFK is here to tell us how this helps us welcome little children and Jesus.
