After an extremely close call where David almost flew off the handle because of Nabal's insult, in this passage we see David in another crucial moment.

King Saul continues to pursue David, trying to break him. In the middle of the night, David sneaks into Saul's military camp, creeping right up next to Saul as he was sleeping. David has the perfect opportunity to take out Saul once and for all. Instead, he leaves Saul unharmed and takes Saul's spear as proof.

As he returns to his hideout, David calls out to Saul's general, waking up the entire camp. He even has a bit of swagger, showing off Saul's spear and announcing that God is greater than any army. Just like his face-off with Goliath, David is the picture of confidence in this moment.
