Making All Things New: Genesis
Godly Relationships
Rev. Ho-Ming Tsui
Genesis 24
What can we can learn from this story?
———
1. If I should be married (the plan)?
See 1 Cor 7:27-31
Both singleness and marriage are good conditions; can be blessings from God
and can glorify him
———
2. How do I find the person to marry (the process)?
Arranged Marriage
Courtship
Dating
Casual Dating
a. Humbly see the Lord’s will
From the start, everyone involved prayed (v. 2, 12, 15) & worshipped (v. 26-2;
47-50). God is central in the discernment process.
b. Trust other in the discernment process
God’s will is often confirmed through communal discernment. Rebekah’s
brother (v. 29) and father (v. 50) and the servant were all involved in the
discernment process.
c. Take it seriously
Both Isaac and Rebekah are ready to be married - they take every step
seriously
