Jesus has performed His first miracle, turning water to wine and His disciples have begun to believe in Him. Instead of caring about popularity or what people think, He shows us that He is first and foremost, God’s Anointed and that He will have zeal for His Father’s house. He cares for God’s holiness more than He does in popularity. And so, putting some cords together, He goes and drives out all the people who were exchanging money and selling animals in the temple court. This place was reserved for the Gentiles, non-Jews, for them to pray and connect with God. Jesus, infuriated, drives out those who would look to hinder His Father’s praise. We see in John 2 that Jesus is man’s Saviour but He does not compromise in being God’s Holy One, God’s Anointed.
