God's Donkey

Mark 11:1-11

There are several seeming contradictions in this week's passage – Jesus riding on an unbroken donkey, Jesus instructing the disciples to untie a tied animal. Also the crowd ready to crown a king who was never crowned as prince and finally for Jesus to arrive at the celebration of Passover and finding the Temple engaged in business rather than worship. Each of these is very interesting and on Sunday we will explore each one in some detail – but just so you can have a taste: I love the way God sets Himself up in previous stories to demonstrate who He is and shows His will among people. God's simple message is 'Put God first and He will take care of you' as is seen with Elijah and the widow in 1 Kings 17 and the little boy with his lunch in John 6. By faith both the widow and boy gave up everything and by God's blessing received God's best. I am not sure what the owner of the donkey ever received if anything – but his willingness to give now lives as part of one of the most famous stories in all the Bible!
