"There are times when we're broken because of the choices of others. There are times when we're broken just because of living in a fallen world, having these mortal bodies, these mortal experiences.

But I will say that when you are broken because of your own choices, that can be one of the hardest kinds of brokenness. Because it's really easy to feel like you deserve the punishment, that you brought this upon yourself, and you deserve to feel miserable, you don't deserve forgiveness. Why would God help you when you brought this upon yourself?

But one of the great mysteries of the universe is the fact that God still wants to help us, even in moments like that. Perhaps especially in moments like that."
