As Christians, we often make the mistake of looking for God’s power today as a miraculous sign, a healing touch, a prosperous and healthy life, or a victorious life of overcoming sin. Instead, Paul describes God’s power as resurrecting power that raised Christ from the dead, the same power now working in us. Paul describes the Christian’s previous state as dead in sin - children of wrath who followed the world, the devil, and the desires of our selfish hearts. But in Christ, we have been made alive, saved, and seated with Jesus in the heavenly realms. Paul tells us this change is a result of God’s love, not our goodness; it is God’s gift, not our work - this is the grace of God, something we do not deserve. Having experienced this love and kindness from God, being saved through Jesus Christ - let us live as God’s handiwork by living out the good works He has prepared in advance for us to do, for the praise of His glory.
