Pastor Samuel SutterSunday, October 2, 2016 - 9:30am For the last several weeks we’ve been looking at how GOD works: - What is He doing and how can we be a part of it? We started by looking at Ephesians 4: The fundamental job of Church leaders is to EQUIP God’s people for works of service. Then last week - we talked about how Jesus did these works using his Body... The incarnate Jesus said something that most of us disagreed with - the world is better off with him gone. Because - we read Jesus last week - He says that Christians (like us) will do GREATER things than he ever did before his death and resurrection. - Then last week we asked - HOW does Jesus propose that us… the church His body … do greater things than he did on earth? - Jesus answers that he gives us the Spirit - and the Spirit gives us gifts. We spent a lot of time in 1 Cor 12… talking about gifted Saints - That each one (every person who professed Jesus as LORD) has been given a gift. And they’re all from the same Lord, Spirit (headed toward the same goal, point on map), and together all of us are working toward what Paul calls the “common good” - nothing short of making the world a better place. We also looked at Romans 12 - Discovered that Spiritual gifts look like lots of different things - from teaching God’s word, to encouraging to service - just simply doing things that should be done. - We sent you home with some homework - spiritual gifts survey (was that helpful?) - learn a little about yourself how God’s has gifted you. So far we’ve made the point that whatever God is doing - His primary method right now is to USE all of God’s gifted people to do God’s work! This week we’re going to back up and ask - “If God’s plan is to use all of God’s gifted people to do GOd’s work - what is HE trying to accomplish - what is his work? What is that thing that we are all supposed to work together to do? (what’s our goal?, what’s our place on the map we’re headed toward?) Once we’re equipped and gifted - what’s next?
