- I’ve always been a businessman and have always been successful. It started with my mowing the lawn at 13 years old at my house in Ohio which my Dad would pay me for. I noticed I liked cutting the grass, so I went and cut my neighbours’ lawns and I expanded my territory until I started Dan The Man’s Lawn Service which operated all in cash, the IRS is probably still looking for me! In 2006-7 I was making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month through my mortgage company. All of a sudden in March 2008 the faucet was turned off when the market shifted an turned upside down. It was painful, I had to file bankruptcy, I lost my house, my wife and kids, my cars, I then got evicted from my rental because I couldn’t pay the rent. I moved back in with my Dad for 2 years and turned to drinking.
- On 7th July 2010 I walk to the liquor cabinet, but I passed it and walked into the back yard and had a conversation with God. It was the most frightening and exciting thing I’ve ever experienced. I heard a voice saying: “Son, you’re done drinking, don’t drink ever again”. I looked around for my Dad, but it wasn’t his voice. I kept hearing the voice and I realised it wasn’t from me, it was from something bigger than me. I’d been trying to give up drinking for years with no success, but the voice was both booming and calming and there was certainty with it, so I listened and as a result lots of things have happened in my life and it’s been pretty remarkable since then.
- I got back into the mortgage business again but this time I was sober and connected to God. I wasn’t walking with Him every day, but I’d get little hints or ideas that weren’t from me. I took on that stuff and created a business that was 5-10 times better than the one before. I started feeling myself selling myself into feeling good, I asked God why I felt like this and His voice entered my mind again and it was one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had. He said: “You’re done doing mortgages, get out of the business, don’t closed mortgages ever again.” I started pacing the office wondering how I’d get out, I was leveraged. He said: “You’re built for way more than being a mortgage guy helping just one family at a time.” Then every client started saying no to me, which never happened. He then told me to delete my database, what?! But I did and then I started walking with God the next morning and asking him questions, the more I asked the more information He gave me and I built up a connection. I did all the stuff He told me to and everyone won.
