Over the past year or so, the one asset class of much discussion has been cryptocurrencies. Based on survey data, these assets have been traded more often than traditional investments, such as stocks, in many different demographics of the population. This seems very backwards to me! Should speculative assets not be secondary to assets that have a historically long track record of solid performance? I am not saying that there is not a place in your portfolio for crypto, or other speculative assets, but I am saying that such a place should be small and come AFTER you build a base portfolio of traditionally successful investments.
