Crete is an excellent destination for a summer vacation. Going to Crete this Summer? Growing up I had certain images in my mind of Crete, strong men, big moustaches, sheep and great food, ladies who have great skill at making traditional sweets baklava, recipes passed down centuries. This was the view of a little girl, but Crete now I know is more, It's the largest Greek island, has secret beaches, diving sports, its hospitable, wonderful sunsets, wines, dancing, walks , hikes, lots of archaeology, gorges and magical caves. It has spots for the rich and Famous Elounda. I know something very special, the Caves of Zeus! Crete is South of Mainland Greece from Athens it is: By plane just under an hour. By Ferry about 9 hours plus 2 From London : By plane 4 hours (I put this in to give you a measure of comparison) There are two Airports : Chania Heraklion Ports mainly used to get to Crete Port of Heraklion For of Chania Port of Rethymnos There are many other ports but the above are the most used. So how would I suggest you go to Crete?
