Listen Later

"Going to the Army!" is a podcast series featuring Salvation Army music. This 26th Episode is for May 2016 and continues the return of the "Going to the Army!" ministry, now in its 3rd season.
This episode features Salvation Army bands, singers and soloists from around the world - with a special feature on a good friend of mine, Dr Clarence Adoo MBE - a Salvationist musician whose professional career as a trumpet player in leading orcheatras was tragicaly cut short by a terrible car accident that left him paralysed from the neck down. Despite this he has continued his career in music - not just in administration but as a performer and conductor - as we shall hear in his inspiring interview in the podcast. As well as hearing a recording of Clarence playing we hear the International Staff Band in a special recording performing a march with Clarence conducting - and we have 2 excerpts from a BRAND NEW CD recording issued to help raise funds for him recorded by The Fairey Band, one of the leading contesting bands in the world, and conducted by John Ward that features the music of Col. Robert Redhead.
A DVD: "The Sound of Hope" is available to purchase at Clarence's own website www.clarence.org.uk
The CD "Quintessence" by The Fairey Band can be purchased through iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/album/id1099001968?ls=1&app=itunes
or at www.melodiesforclarence.com
PLEASE support Clarence as he continues to inspire and encourage people all over the world.
In addition to this feature music included in the Podcast includes works by Harold Scotney, Howard Davies, Norman Bearcroft and the Founder's son Ballington Booth.
Originally begun for just a few friends and family members GttA has become SO MUCH MORE than that in just 32 months. The Episodes and 'specials' have been listened to or downloaded HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of times in all continents and more than 50 countries throughout the world - and has been played to even more by listeners who share them with family, church shut-ins and other friends who do not have access to the internet.
This new podcast continues the ever-growing ministry of GttA around the world and features both new songs and pieces and others that have been well-loved and very well-blessed for many years throughout the Salvation Army World. I am particularly grateful to people who send me requests for items they would like featured on GttA.
We have had to upgrade from the FREE Podomatic service FOUR times now so many thanks to those who have donated enabling us to be able to do that. Any donations to this ministry are gratefully received and my be sent via PayPal through the link on the right hand side of the podcast's main page at: www.goingtothearmy.podomatic.com
The "Going to the Army" Facebook group recently passed 4,100 members from all around the world. "They shall come from the East, They shall come from the West and sit down in the Kingdom of God". Hallelujah! Much of the featured music is from my own transfers of old SA LPs, 78s and cassettes but some CD and original recordings are also included. Presented by lifelong Salvationist musician and actor Marc Harry this podcast features music by bands, songsters, singing companies and soloists. In addition, background information about the music, the Salvation Army and the presenter's own experiences are included.
