"Going to the Army!" is a podcast series featuring Salvation Army music.
This is the first of our 'Special' Episodes, to mark Remembrance Day - an event that Salvation Army bands all over the world take part in every year.
The major (end) part of this podcast uses, NOT music, but a short story written and self-published a few years ago by Marc Harry - the writer and presenter of Going to the Army. The story is also read by the author, who has worked as an actor as well as a teacher and musician in the past. Marc's family are from Wales and, although fiction, the story has many links to his family history as well as reflecting the horrors of war and it's effect on the subsequent lives of all who were part of it.
Preceding the story is a short selection of music typical of that music that SA bands will be playing this Sunday, 10th November 2013, and in any subsequent year. Featured recordings include the International Staff Band, The London Singers and The Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
