Two friends eating and drinking their way through Gold –Book 5 of the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy!
SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES
Recipes for food and cocktails mentioned in this episode:
Tear and Sharebread with Golden Herb butter (shortcut version)
Ingredients:
1 large round rustic bread loaf (sourdough or boule style)
4 tbsp butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 tsp fresh thyme
1 cup shredded mozzarella or Gruyère cheese (optional, for gooeyness)
For the butter:
½ cup softened butter
1 tbsp honey (to tie in golden sweetness)
1 tsp fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
Pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Using a sharp knife, cut the bread in a crisscross pattern (like a grid), but don’t slice all the way through — leave the base intact so it holds together.
Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and thyme. Drizzle into the cracks of the bread.
If using cheese, tuck shreds into the cuts too.
Wrap in foil, bake 15 min. Open foil and bake another 5 min until golden.
Whip softened butter with honey, herbs, and sea salt until fluffy. Serve alongside the bread for dipping/spreading.
Wine/Cocktail Pairing: Lazy Payur Highball
Ingredients:
2 oz bourbon (or tequila/mezcal if you like smoke)
3 oz cold ginger beer (or ginger ale)
1 oz lemonade (store-bought)
Optional “rot vein”: 1 tsp crème de cassis or 1 tsp blackberry jam thinned with a splash of hot water
Instructions:
Fill a tall glass with ice
Add bourbon, lemonade, top with ginger beer, give it a quick stir
Drizzle the cassis/blackberry on top so the dark ribbon sinks through the gold
Optional squeeze of lemon; done.
