Golden Kamuy, the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Satoru Noda is our series for today!

Golden Kamuy is a series about a man named Sugimoto. He participated in the Japanese-Russo War with his best friend. His best friend dies and asks Sugimoto to take care of his Wife's medical expenses for her eyes. PLOT TWIST! Sugimoto is in love with this woman too. As with any war veteran, Sugimoto is cast aside after the war and is not given money or care for his victories on the battlefield. He even earns the title, "Immortal Sugimoto" as he used to rampage and kill all enemies in front of him. Sugimoto ends up having to search rivers for traces of gold dust. While doing this, a drunk man tells him of this story of a massive Ainu collection of gold that got lost and the only way to find it was to find tattoos on the skins of convicts from a certain prison. Sugimoto doesn't believe him, but the man tries to kill him in his sleep and Sugimoto realises that the man was one of the tattooed convicts! He meets an Ainu girl named Asirpa and begins a journey to find the gold.

That's what the story is about. We weren't too impressed with the execution, although the premise seemed good. In fact, Sid didn't even read the whole synopsis! He just saw the word, "HOKKAIDO" and decided that this would be the next topic. In this podcast, we come in with some spicy takes about the story (or lack thereof) in the story at the start, how certain things just don't make sense, how humans are metal and can fight bears, how Sugimoto activates WTF mode whenever he starts fighting a lot, then about Ainu culture and some hypocritical statements that Bru found weird, and FINALLY, we end up fighting amongst each other in a funny, but nonsensical way.
