Did you know that even while dying on the cross, Jesus stopped to care for someone in their grief?
In this message, “Good Plans,” we continue our series on the Last Words of Jesus by looking at one of the most personal moments at the cross in John 19:25–27. As Jesus looks down and sees His mother Mary standing there in sorrow, He says: “Woman, here is your son… Here is your mother.”
Even in the middle of unimaginable suffering, Jesus reveals something profound about the heart of God.
This passage reminds us that God does not abandon us in our pain. The same Savior who secured our eternal future on the cross also sees our grief and walks with us through it. Through this moment, Jesus also begins forming a spiritual family—the church—where we belong together and live out the mission of the Great Commission.
In this message, we explore:
• Jesus sees us — He meets us in our pain and grief and never abandons us.
• Even in His suffering, Jesus was still perfect — fulfilling the law and honoring His mother.
• Jesus creates a spiritual family — the church is not an exclusive club, but an open invitation to belong and reach the world for Christ.
• Jesus is not just the God of the past or the future — He is present with us right here and right now.
No matter what season you are walking through, the cross reminds us that God still has good plans for your life, even through loss, hardship, and grief.
We close this message with the song “Good Plans / Doxology,” celebrating the faithfulness and goodness of God.
