I look at the last city council meeting of the previous session, the swearing-in ceremony, and the first meeting on January 1st. We hear the goodbye statements from outgoing councilors, Ruthzee's first speech as President, and I discuss the controversies of the presidential vote and of course "oathgate."

I also reflect on the roles of rituals in the Boston City Council and in our government.
