Conservatives are of being lumped in with the racists, homophobes, evangelicals, and fiscally irresponsible leaders that have emerged as the new mainstream in the Republican party, so they are leaving it behind. 

By making it unmistakably clear that racists are welcome in the Republican party, they have also driven anyone who isn't completely comfortable with racism away from the party.

That is why Donald Trump lost the election. That is why the Republican party has lost control of both the house and the Senate.

When voting for small government and individual liberties also means voting against gay rights and police reform, it is time for sweeping, drastic change.
