Three national health organizations want the premiers to push more initiatives to reduce smoking. In a lawsuit by the provinces to recoup health care costs from tobacco companies, the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Lung Association, and Heart and Stroke Foundation want 10% of the settlement to be used towards funding programs to slash smoking.
