As an effort to avoid increasing property taxes in Saskatoon, a city committee has proposed adding an accommodation tax to help generate revenue for a new downtown arena in the city. Accommodation taxes exist in other Canadian cities, like Winnipeg, and across British Columbia. The tax could see additional fees added to tickets, hotels and rental car costs.
