Tailings are the mine waste left behind after removing precious and critical minerals. That waste can often contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can pollute soil, water and crops. A team of researchers at the University of Queensland is using the Canadian Light Source at the University of Saskatchewan to turn those harmful tailings into healthy soil. Professor and researcher, Longbin Huang, tells Taylor MacPherson how and what their innovative discovery means.
