This is a formal letter to Horen, a Lay Monk teacher of the Law that has been practicing for 15 years after converting to Nichiren's teachings of the Lotus Sutra. This letter is a reminder of several expedient means teachings to aid Horen in his propagation efforts as well as advice on the current political climate of Japan at the time. There is also praise for Horen's act of devotion for his deceased father through a daily recitation (gongyo) practice of reciting the Life Span chapter of the Lotus Sutra.
