What if self-control is less about what you’re being denied and more about what you’re protecting?
In this episode, we close out our journey through the nine fruits of the Spirit with Self-Control — The Fence Around the Garden.
Through 1 Corinthians 9:25, we look at Paul’s picture of an athlete whose discipline is shaped by what they are pursuing. Self-control helps us make present decisions with something greater than present desire in mind. It teaches us when to say yes, when to say no, when to wait, and when to walk away.
We also talk about why boundaries can be a form of protection rather than punishment, how wisdom prepares before temptation arises, and what to do when self-control breaks down.
And through a deeply personal story, we look at what restraint can actually feel like when choosing the right response does not feel peaceful, easy, or victorious in the moment.
The fence does not create the garden. It protects what has already been cultivated.
Self-control is choosing the eternal reward over temporary satisfaction.

What if gentleness isn’t the absence of strength, but the way we choose to carry it?
In this episode, we spend time in Matthew 11:29, where Jesus invites us to learn directly from Him and describes Himself as gentle and humble in heart.
We talk about what biblical gentleness actually looks like, why gentleness should never be confused with weakness, and how Jesus models strength that doesn’t need to dominate, humiliate, or prove itself. We also explore the connection between gentleness and humility, the difference between stewardship and control, and why boundaries, truth, correction, and firmness can still be carried with the posture of Christ.
Because the question isn’t whether we have strength.
It’s what happens to that strength when we’re frustrated, tired, disappointed, or hurt.
Gentleness is not weakness—it is strength that chooses tenderness.

In this episode, we continue Cultivating the Garden: How the Spirit Transforms Our Lives with a conversation about faithfulness, consistency, and learning to steward what God has already placed in our hands.
Through Luke 16:10, we see that the little things are not disconnected from the important things. The ordinary responsibilities, unseen commitments, and repeated decisions are forming patterns of character and teaching us how to carry what has been entrusted to us.
Faithfulness is not perfection. It is continuing to return, take responsibility, keep your word, and remain obedient—even after the excitement wears off.
The size of the assignment does not determine the value of your obedience.

Through Romans 15:14, we see that the Holy Spirit is not simply changing our behavior. He is transforming us from the inside out. Goodness is formed through ordinary moments of surrender, integrity, obedience, and remaining connected to Christ.
You may still be growing, but that does not mean God cannot use you. What He has already placed within you can encourage, strengthen, and nourish someone else.
Goodness is not something we create. It is something God cultivates in us.

Through Romans 12:12 and James 5:7–8, we learn that patience is not passive. It is remaining faithful while trusting God’s timing. Like a farmer waiting for a harvest, we are responsible for planting, tending, praying, and obeying—but growth belongs to God.
Waiting does not mean God has forgotten you, and a field that looks empty does not mean nothing is growing beneath the surface.
Keep praying. Keep obeying. Keep tending the ground God has given you—and leave the growth in His hands.

Before we spend the next several weeks exploring joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, we first have to understand the foundation they all grow from: love.
In this episode, we walk through 1 Corinthians 13 and John 13:34–35 to discover what biblical love really looks like. Together, we’ll explore why love gives meaning to everything else we do, how Jesus modeled the standard of love, and why our love for others becomes evidence of our relationship with Him.
We’ll also talk about how love isn’t something we manufacture through our own effort. Instead, it’s something that flows from first receiving Christ’s love and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
Whether you’re just beginning your walk with Christ or you’ve been following Him for years, this conversation is an invitation to examine your heart, reflect on the way you love others, and allow God to continue cultivating the fruit only He can produce.

Season 4 of Gospel Girlies begins with a foundational question: What is growing in me?
Before we talk about the fruit of the Spirit individually, we need to understand where spiritual fruit comes from in the first place.
In this episode, we explore what Scripture teaches about life in the Spirit, abiding in Christ, and the transformation that happens when we remain connected to the true source of growth.
Fruit doesn’t appear overnight. It takes time to grow.
And while we often focus on producing fruit, Jesus reminds us that the goal isn’t to manufacture fruit. The goal is to abide in Him. The fruit is what grows because of it.
