The Democrat that he beat, the mayor of Tallahassee at the time Andrew Gillum, was later charged with 21 felonies for various types of corruption and caught up in a police sting in a hotel somewhere in Miami with a male prostitute and drugs? If DeSantis hadn't narrowly beaten Gillum, Gillum undoubtedly would have followed the lead of governors in blue states, such as Andrew Cuomo in New York, Gavin Newsom in California, and others. And Florida would have seen harsh lockdowns, mandates, school closings, and other blue state policies that would have driven Florida into the ground. Instead, under DeSantis, Florida is a powerhouse.
