Welcome to this second GPS Training podcast for this month, it’s our 39th episode.
With the current lockdown in the UK we are creating two Podcasts a month, rather than our usual one to hopefully keep you entertained.
On this Podcast I have Ian joining me again, have you had a good month Ian?I think in July will be our last month of two Podcasts in a month as hopefully Ian we should be back delivering courses from august onwards and Ian, we have a special guest on next months Podcast, I think you are going to enjoy it.
So, without further ado lets get on with today’s podcast ……
In this month’s podcast we –
We have a chat with Adam Redshaw, the geocaching guyThe inaccuracy of some map scales, very much relating to planning routesIan’s FAQ, the frequently asked question Ian gets asked whilst supporting our customers.
The first thing on this month’s podcast is a catch up with Adam Redshaw, the Geocaching guy
Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt that's happening right now, all around you.
There are over 6 million geocachers and over 3 million active geocaches.
Geocaching is recognised as the fastest-growing outdoor activity.
You use a GPS enabled device to find hidden containers, which can take various forms and sizes.
These can be in some amazing places where you can get out and about exploring. A brilliant way to regain a sense of adventure, get out walking and do some exercise, with the added fun of challenges and technology.
Geocaching can take you to interesting ruins, places of outstanding natural beauty or of local interest. This makes a brilliant hobby for young and old alike, and you can do it on your own or with family and friends.
To find out more about Adam and Geocaching in general please go to Geocaching.com and Adams website is - thegeocachingguy.co.uk

3. Ian’s FAQ’s
Garmin
How do I backup my Birdseye maps?
If they are only on your GPS, create a folder in Basecamp and save them there
The ‘belt and braces method’ to back up the maps is to
send them to the GPS from Basecamp if they're not already in the GPSopen up the 'Garmin' folder of the Internal Storage of the GPS (please be careful!)locate and double click on the 'Birdseye folder'Copy and paste the .jnx files from the folder in to a folder in your PC/external storage device
Please note the maps can't be used outside Basecamp/sent to anyone as they are locked to the serial number of the GPS.
We urge caution when performing this operation and please be careful when you are copying and pasting the files from the Birdseye folder.
Loss of data/deletion of files/folders on your GPS is done at your own risk and we do not accept liability for any such loss.
This is covered in the On Line Resource, Basecamp Top Tips. While it is for a Windows PC, the procedure is identical for a Mac.
Satmap
My Active 20 battery is draining really fast, even after I have powered it off.
The common causes of battery drain are:
out of date GPS softwarea corrupt gpx file or manually added folder to the GPS Internal Storagesub folders created by the owner in the Internal Storage
To start with it is good to confirm that you have:
the latest Platform and GPS device software in your GPS
The latest software updates are:
a. Platform version: Platform 43
b. GPS software: Beta Version 3.13.066
It is best to download the software via SatSync but you can do it over WiFi. There is a short video in the On Line Resource for SatSync in how to download the software if you're not sure how to do it. The Beta version is what we recommend people download as the software offers more fixes and some extra features. If there is a problem, you can always 'roll it back' to an earlier version.
