2 – Chris the coast walker

Ramsgate! Well into my fourth county I always had it in mind that my first big target would be at the end of the first 30 days. Here I’d stop for two days to see my wife & cubs then continue on when they leave me at Ramsgate harbour to begin the path south.

Where can people find out more about Chris’s epic journey

        Web – https://thecoastwalker.com/

        Facebook – christhecoastwalker
        Twitter – @thecoastwalker

3 – Ian’s FAQ’s, the frequently asked questions you have been asked over the past few months.

I don’t want to hijack you piece Ian, but I have found a great App for the iPhone (and I suspect works on Android phones) that ties in with my Garmin Fenix watch – Calorie Counter +

I know this sounds a bit naff, but let me explain.

It’s a tad geeky but it’s great seeing how your exercise offsets the calories you have ate/ drank during each day

        • Now back to what we should have been talking about – Ian’s FAQ’s
        • Garmin
Should I use the Battery Save option or not?

          My personal opinion……….

The features that use most battery power are

          Screen brightness level

          Frequency of use

Backlight set to be on for more than 30 seconds

Coupled with using good quality Lithium or NiMH rechargeable batteries (minimum 2500mAh), will give you a good day’s worth of use out of them without needing to have the Battery Save on provided the other features above are set.

The advantage in not having the Battery Save on is that you just need to tap the screen/press a button for the backlight to come back on if needed. The screen is so good that you can still see the map with the backlight off.

          Satmap

How do I remove routes that show on my map screen and clutter up the screen?

The two ways to remove the inactive routes from the Active 20 map screen are:

          1. delete them from the Active 20
          2. or if you wish them to remain on the Active 20 but not show

            1. Main menu>Settings>Option 22>Set Trip Data>Hide Inactive Routes
            2. Wearables

Various pieces of data like the temperature, pressure, notifications (texts, phone calls, app notifications) are missing on my watch

In order to have this kind of information displayed on the watch, the watch must be connected to your smartphone/tablet. If it’s disconnected, the information won’t be displayed. The moment that it reconnects, the information will display.

              Notification set up

Garmin Connect app>Garmin Devices>Select the device>Sounds and Alerts>Smart notifications> set for General Use and During Activity

Don’t forget we have lots of tips and solutions to your questions in the GPS Training online resource – go to – gpstraining – click on – online resource – on the top menu bar – and then log in – select your unit and you will see the top tips for that unit down at the bottom of the menu of units.
