Not only does Paul exhort children to obey and honor their parents, but he encourages them with several motivations, as it glorifies God, it is righteous, and it comes along with the promise of God blessing obedience. Ultimately, children must be born again, as the new heart provides the very power through which they are enabled to obey unto the glory of God.

As husbands and wives have been made one flesh, husbands are to nourish and cherish their wives, in the same way that Christ does the Church through covenant union with her, which was predestined from ages past - a union pictured by marriage,.

Ephesians 5:28-33 “In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.”
