As we come together as one church for our 2026 Fall Kick Off, we jump into our new study of First John by tackling the first question, "Why Study First John?"

Maybe it's breaking free of the doom scroll on your phone. Or controlling your lustful or fearful thoughts. Or staying away from the ice cream in the freezer. Or getting up early enough to prioritize time with God. No matter who we are, we all struggle with self control! It's the last of Paul's 9 character qualities that make up the fruit of the Spirit that God is forming in his people.

All the fruit of the Spirit are counter-cultural, but GENTLENESS might be the more counter-cultural of all. And yet the biblical call to gentleness is consistent and clear.

We continue our study of the fruit of the Spirit by looking into kindness, and are reminded that walking in step with God's Spirit will produce kindness in us that resembles God's kindness to us in the gospel.
